- UC Davis point guard Dante Ross was named 1997-1998 NCAC first-team all-Conference and Most Valuable Player. The Aggies' Chris Vlasic joined Ross on the first team, and Justis Durkee and Jonathan Surface received NCAC honorable mention. Head Coach Bob Williams was named NCAC Coach of the Year for the third time in four years.
- For the week of Mar. 3, 1998, UC Davis is ranked 7th in the nation in NCAA Div. II , its highest regular season ranking in school history. In addition, the Aggies are ranked nationally in the following team categories-- 2nd in scoring defense at 61.0, 13th in scoring margin at 13.1, 2nd in won- lost percentage at 0.929, and 7th in field goal percentage defense at 0.386.
- UC Davis finished the regular NCAC conference season in the top three in each of the ten team categories-- 1st in scoring defense at 60.6, 2nd in scoring offense at 75.9, 1st in field goal percentage at 0.487, 1st in field goal percentage defense at 0.382, 1st in rebounding margin at 5.9, 2nd in assists at 17.3, 2nd in free throw percentage at 0.685, 1st in three point field goal percentage at 0.382, 3rd in three point field goals made at 6.7, and 2nd in steals at 9.4. Individual Aggies who are ranked in the final NCAC conference statistics include Dante Ross (2nd in assists at 5.4, 1st in assists/turnover ratio at 2.6, 1st in field goal percentage at 0.629, 2nd in free throw percentage at 0.833, 7th in blocks at 0.79, 2nd in steals at 2.93, and 14th in scoring at 11.7), Chris Vlasic (3rd in free throw percentage at 0.828 and 11th in scoring at 12.4), Jonathan Surface (5th in field goal percentage at 0.545, 4th in three point field goal percentage at 0.453, and 7th in three point field goals made at 1.7), and Rick Gonzales (3rd in three point field goal percentage at 0.478 and 8th in blocked shots at 0.64).
- The Aggies won their fourth consecutive NCAC Shaughnessy Tournament to automatically qualify for the NCAA Div. II Western Regional. Pairings and sites will be announced on Sunday, March 1, at 4:30 p.m. PST. UC Davis is the top-seeded team in the West, and is hoping to host the Western Regional at Recreation Hall.
- The Aggies have finished the regular NCAC season at 14-0 ! Two teams in the 30-year history of the league have gone undefeated. The only other team was the 1995-1996 Aggie team, which also won a school record 24 games. Following their final NCAC game, a 76-63 win over San Francisco State at San Francisco, the Aggie team was treated to an outstanding postgame meal hosted by the family of J. P. Bergez and assisted by the family of Justis Durkee. All members of the coaching staff and team extend our heartfelt thanks for their kindness and generosity and for all the sacrifices they have made and support they have given the Aggies for many years. You and the parents and families of all the other players will always be remembered for this dedication.
- For the week of Feb. 23, 1998, UC Davis continues to be ranked 9th in the nation in NCAA Div. II and 1st in the West Region ahead of Cal State Bakersfield, Montana Stae- Billings, Seattle pacific, Grand Canyon, and Cal State L. A. Oddly, Cal State Bakersfield is still the top-ranked team in the country in NCAA Div. II ! In addition, the Aggies are ranked nationally in the following team categories-- 1st in scoring defense at 61.5, 13th in scoring margin at 13.7, 20th in field goal percentage at 49.1, and 6th in field goal percentage defense at 38.9.
- For the week of Feb. 16, 1998, UC Davis continues to be ranked 9th in the nation in NCAA Div. II and 1st in the West Region ahead of Cal State Bakersfield. Oddly, Cal State Bakersfield is the top-ranked team in the country in NCAA Div. II ! In addition, the Aggies are ranked nationally in the following team categories-- 2nd in scoring defense at 61.8, 13th in scoring margin at 13.6, 22nd in field goal percetage at 49.3, and 4th in field goal percentage defense at 38.6.
- Wow ! Hang on to your hats, Aggie fans ! For the week of Feb. 10, 1998, UC Davis is ranked 9th in the nation in NCAA Div. II, and ranked 1st in the West Region after Cal State Bakersfield lost 69-68 to Grand Canyon.

- For the week of Feb. 2, 1998, UC Davis is ranked 15th in the nation in NCAA Div. II, and ranked 2nd in the West Region behind No. 1-ranked Cal State Bakersfield. The Aggies are ranked nationally in the following team categories-- 4th in scoring defense at 62.3, 13th in scoring margin at 14.8, 6th in field goal percetage at 50.6, and 10th in field goal percentage defense at 39.1. In NCAC statistics UC Davis ranks in the following team categories-- 1st in scoring offense at 81.6, 1st in scoring defense at 62.0, 1st in field goal percentage at 0.521, 1st in field goal percentage defense at 0.382, 1st in rebounding margin at 5.6, 1st in assists at 20.3, 1st in three point field goal percentage at 0.410, 2nd in three point field goals made at 7.1, 3rd in free throw percentage at 0.684, and 3rd in steals at 8.6. Individuals that are ranked in conference statistics include Dante Ross (12th in scoring at 12.5, 3rd in field goal percentage at 0.621, 6th in free throw percentage at 0.774, 5th in blocked shots at 1.25, 2nd in assists at 6.1, and 2nd in steals at 2.63), Chris Vlasic (10th in scoring at 13.1, 3rd in free throw percentage at 0.806, 5th in three point field goals made per game at 2.0, and 7th in three point field goal percentage at 0.410), J. P. Bergez (5th in three point field goal percenatge at 0.421), and Justis Durkee (8th in blocked shots at 0.63).
- Chris Vlasic was named NCAC Co-Player of the Week, along with Chico State's Marquis Smith, on January 26, 1998. Vlasic averaged 18.5 ppg, including a career high 25 versus Sonoma State, in leading the Aggies to a weekend sweep and sole possession of first place in the NCAC. He hit 8 of 15 three point tries and had 11 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals.
- For the week of Jan. 26, 1998, UC Davis is ranked 17th in the nation in NCAA Div. II, and ranked 2nd in the West Region behind No. 1-ranked Cal State Bakersfield.
- For the week of Jan. 19, 1998, UC Davis leads conference teams in six of ten team categories-- scoring defense (56.5), scoring offense (82.8), field goal percentage (0.538), field goal percentage defense (0.360), rebounding margin (7.0), and assists (18.8). They are second in free throw percentage (0.726), third in three point field goal percentage (0.358 ) and steals (8.5), and 6th in three point field goals made (6.0). Individuals that are ranked in conference statistics include Dante Ross (1st in assists at 6.0, 2nd in field goal percentage at 0.654, 3rd in free throw percentage at 0.833, 5th in blocks at 1.00, 5th in steals at 1.75, and 14th in scoring at 12.5), Justis Durkee (1st in field goal percentage at 0.750), Chris Vlasic (2nd in free throw percentage at 0.889), and J. C. Timmons (7th in assists at 4.0).
- For the week of Jan. 19, 1998, UC Davis is ranked 19th in the nation in NCAA Div. II, and ranked 2nd in the West Region behind No. ranked Cal State Bakersfield. The remaining ranked teams in the West are Montana State-Billings, Seattle Pacific, Grand Canyon, and Alaska-Anchorage. The top six ranked teams in the West will advance to NCAA Div. II post-season play.
- For the week of Jan. 12, 1998, UC Davis is ranked 23rd in the nation in NCAA Div. II.
- Dante Ross was named NCAC Player of the Week for the second time this season on December 22, 1997. For three games Ross averaged 14.3 ppg (including 18 in a win over top-ranked Cal State Bakersfield) and had 17 assists, 12 rebounds, 10 steals, and 4 blocked shots.
- Dante Ross was named NCAC Player of the Week on December 8, 1997.

- The U. C. Davis men's team finished their basketball season by traveling to the Div. II West Regionals in Bakersfield, CA, where they lost 78-66 to a talented Grand Canyon team. The Aggies ended with 20 wins against 9 losses.
- Justis Durkee and Jason Cox were named to the NCAC all-conference first team. Dedrique Taylor was named all-conference honorable mention. Lance Broderson of Cal State Hayward was named NCAC player-of-the-year.
- Dedrique Taylor was named NCAC player of the week on February 24. In the season finale against Chico State, an 80-56 win which clinched an NCAC co-championship and the top seed in the upcoming Shaughnessy Tournament, Taylor scored 24 points on 8 of 12 shooting and had 7 rebounds, a steal, and a blocked shot.
- UC Davis tied with Cal State Hayward for the regular season NCAC Championship (their third consecutive championship). They will have home-court advantage throughout the upcoming Shaughnessy Tournament by virtue of their two big wins over Hayward.
- UC Davis' Jason Cox was named NCAC co-player of the week on February 3. Against College of Notre Dame and San Francisco State he totalled 41 points, 17 rebounds, and three blocked shots. He shared the weekly honor with Chico State's Derek Byrd, who scored 50 points and pulled down 20 rebounds in wins over the same two schools. Derek Byrd was honored for the second time this season.
- UC Davis' Dante Ross was named NCAC player of the week on January 27. He had a career high 29 points against Chico State, making 9-of-14 from the field and 11-of-12 from the line. Ross also had 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and just 1 turnover in 34 minutes.
- Following are the final NCAC rankings for individual players-- Dedrick Taylor (15th in scoring at 11.4 pg, 4th in ft. pct. at .827, 11th in rebounding at 5.7 pg, 8th in blocked shots at 0.43 pg), Dante Ross (5th in ft. pct. at .820, 8th in assists at 3.1 pg), Justis Durkee (2nd in rebounding at 8.2 pg), Jason Cox (1st in blocked shots at 1.71 pg, 9th in rebounding at 6.0 pg, 3rd in fg. pct. at .588), J. P. Bergez (2nd in 3-pt. fg. pct. at .442, 7th in 3-pt. fg. made pg at 1.6). The UC Davis team led all NCAC teams in rebounding margin (6.0), three-point field goal percentage (.367), and assists (15.1 pg). UC Davis was 2nd in free throw percentage (.705), 2nd in scoring defense (63.2 pg), 2nd in fg. pct. defense (.409), 2nd in fg. pct. (.466), 4th in scoring offense (72.0 pg), 6th in three-point fg. made (5.6 pg), and 8th in steals (7.4 pg).
