Cox leads Aggies men to victory Bee Staff Reports (Published Jan. 31, 1999) SAN FRANCISCO -- Junior Jason Cox scored a season-high 25 points Saturday as the No. 5 UC Davis men defeated San Francisco State 62-57. San Francisco State, which trailed by as many as nine points in the second half, tied the score 56-56 with 1:05 to play. But Aggies senior J.C. Timmons raced down on the following possession and scored on a layup with 58 seconds left. It would prove to be the game-winning basket. Dante Ross and Cox each added two free throws in the final minute as San Francisco State was unable to score. "I knew tonight was going to be tough because we spent so much energy last night," said UC Davis coach Brian Fogel, referring to UC Davis' tough 62-55 victory at Sonoma State. "I knew there was going to be a letdown. If we really want to keep playing well, we can't do that." The Aggies jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first five minutes, but the Gators tied it 19-19 with 8:23 left in the first half. UC Davis led 29-27 at halftime.
UC Davis (16-3, 12-1) won its sixth consecutive game to remain alone in first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Reggie Watts led San Francisco State (5-14, 2-12) with 23 points. | |||||
