UCD names award winners

Enterprise staff

Keeping a long-standing tradition alive, UC Davis senior Robyn Kamisher was named the school's outstanding female athlete of the year.

Kamisher, winner of the Hubert Heitman Award, is the third consecutive softball player to win, following Gena Weber in 1996 and Trisha Reinhardt in 1997.

Male athlete of the year honors go to junior Dante Ross, and the outstanding athlete for effort in academics, athletics and campus leadership goes to Wes Terrell. Ross wins the Babe Slater Award, while Terrell takes the W.P. Lindley Award.

The three were chosen by an awards committee consisting of faculty and staff from around campus.

Kamisher, the NCAC player of the year, first-team All-West Region and second-team All-American, hit .440 for the Aggies this spring. She also led the team in runs, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI and slugging percentage.

A three-year starter, Kamisher leaves UCD as one of the finest defensive shortstops to ever play for the Aggies.

Kamisher, a women's studies major, also served as one of two student assistants to the athletic director and seeks a career in athletic administration.

Ross, the NCAC player of the year and a fourth-team All-American in men's basketball, led the Aggies to the national championship from the point guard position.

He broke the school's single-season record with 166 assists, and led the team with a 12.0 scoring average. Ross led the Aggies in 11 statistical categories.

Terrell was a first-team All-American as a tight end on the national semifinalist football team. He caught 43 passes for 514 yards and scored six touchdowns last fall.

Off the field, Terrell made the GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 team for the second consecutive year, and also repeated as a recipient of the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Award. Terrell carries a 3.55 grade-point average in agricultural and managerial economics.

As a sophomore, Terrell represented UCD at the NCAA Foundation Student-Athlete Leadership Conference. He volunteers for the Cal Aggie Football Reading Program and the Davis Community Meals Project.

Other awards went to the men's tennis and women's gymnastics teams for having the highest collective GPAs.

These awards will be given as part of the Cal Aggie Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, to be held at Freeborn Hall on Saturday at 5 p.m.
