The Bay Area Discrete Math Day, Fall 2002

The Fifth Bay Area Discrete Math Day will take place at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, Berkeley, on Saturday October 12, 2002 between 10:00 and 6:00. Directions to MSRI can be found here. Please notice that the MSRI shuttle does not run on Saturdays! A convenient alternative is AC Transit bus #65. A schedule is here.

Bay Area Discrete Math Days are one-day meetings aimed at facilitating communication between researchers and graduate students of discrete mathematics around the San Francisco Bay Area. These days happen semi-annually and strive to create a fairly informal atmosphere to talk about discrete mathematics. The term "discrete mathematics" is chosen to include at least the following topics: Algebraic and Enumerative Combinatorics, Discrete Geometry, Graph Theory, Coding and Design Theory, Combinatorial Aspects of Computational Algebra and Geometry, Combinatorial Optimization, Probabilistic Combinatorics, and Combinatorics in Mathematical Physics

  Hilbert bases.
• 3:40-4:00 Tea
• 4:00-5:00 Anders Björner (KTH and MSRI)
  Poset fiber theorems with applications.
• 6:30 Dinner (restaurant TBA).

There will not be any registration fee, but ALL potential participants are kindly requested to send email with their probability of attendance. Please indicate dietary restrictions and whether you will join us for dinner. Information on the area hotels is available upon request.
