Description
Quantum computation is a fascinating area at the intersection of Mathematics, Computer science and Physics, with a dash of Philosophy. In this introductory talk I will focus on what I view as the two main challenges in the field today: Protecting quantum computation from noise,
and breaking past our current barrier in the design of quantum algorithms. I will talk about our achievements in these directions, the
implications to foundational questions in computer science and physics, and the challenges that lie ahead.
