Description
Tropical curves result as certain degenerations
of Riemann surfaces (namely the maximal degenerations).
They are simple piecewise-linear objects and provide
an efficient tool for solving many classical enumerative
problems in real and complex geometry. The talk will
survey tropical curves as well as some of their applications.
