Rank and Heegaard genus of arithmetic 3-manifolds

We show that there are finitely many arithmetic 3-manifolds of Heegaard genus g, up to taking (subdihedral) cyclic covers of (semi)fibered arithmetic 3-manifolds. Assuming the short geodesic conjecture (or the Lehmer conjecture), we show that there are only finitely many closed arithmetic hyperbolic 3-manifolds with 2 generator fundamental group.
