Propagated Waves in Networks of Neurons
Student-Run Research SeminarSpeaker: | Tim Lewis, UC Davis |
Location: | 693 Kerr |
Start time: | Wed, May 18 2005, 12:10PM |
Understanding the mechanisms underlying propagated waves of activity in neural tissue is essential for understanding a wide range of natural and pathological phenomena, including neuronal circuit development, memory formation, epilepsy and migraines. I will discuss some examples of “minimal” mathematical models that capture the basic properties of neuronal networks and display different types of wave activity observed in neural tissue. The idealized nature of these models allows for mathematical analysis that provides insight into the mechanisms generating the wave activity.
