Non-Haken 3-manifolds and small alternating links (part 2)
Student-Run Geometry/Topology SeminarSpeaker: | Chan-Ho Suh, UC Davis |
Location: | 593 Kerr |
Start time: | Thu, Apr 28 2005, 1:10PM |
I will review Menasco's techniques from last week's talk. I will then explain an example due to Hass and Menasco of a small alternating link, i.e. a link with an alternating projection and no closed incompressible surface in its complement. If time (and mood) permits, I will explain the connection to cubings of nonpositive curvature and topological rigidity.
