Aiming at applications in architectural design of freeform glass structures, we introduce conical meshes as a new type of quadrilateral meshes which discretize the network of principal curvature lines. Unlike any other mesh representation, conical meshes have a natural offsetting operation and provide a support structure orthogonal to the mesh. We address relations to Laguerre geometry, to developable surfaces, and discuss their computation with a technique combining optimization and subdivision.
