Description
The study of finite-dimensional Lie Algebras has powerful classification
theorems that allow one to "recognize" any finite-dimensional Lie Algebra.
The infinite-dimensional setting is markedly different in that
classification theorems either do not exist or or are burdened by strong
technical restrictions. We will discuss the most well known examples of
infinite-dimensional Lie Algebras and their sub-algebras. We will then
see the definitions of homology and cohomology of infinite-dimensional Lie
Algebras and discuss the motivation for the definitions. Finally we will
see some principal algebraic interpretations of the cohomology.
