Counts of maps to Grassmannians and intersections on the moduli space of bundles

The moduli space of vector bundles over a curve is arguably one of the most studied parameter space for sheaves. In this talk, we will describe a relationship between the intersection theory of this moduli space and that of the space of morphisms from the curve to a suitable Grassmannian. In particular, we will (painlessly) derive all Verlinde-type intersection numbers on the moduli space of bundles (e.g. the volumes of these moduli spaces, and the dimension of the space of sections of tensor powers of the determinant line bundles).
