This talk will be an informal discussion of a result of Freedman, Larsen, and Wang that says that certain braid group representations coming from the Jones polynomial are dense. The result is important in quantum computing, and interesting just as a result in quantum topological invariants. In particular, I hope to sketch an unpublished, hands-on proof of this result when the Jones polynomial is evaluated at a fifth root of unity.
