This is the second of a three talk series as part of the geometry/topology Research Focus Group. 2) C*-algebras and geometric group theory This will cover how one associates a metric space and a C*-algebra to a group and how various properties of the group, such as amenability, show up in both settings. The basic example is the fundamental group of a finite complex.
