After a short review of supersymmetric Chern-Simons theories and the role they have been playing recently in the AdS/CFT correspondence, in my talk I will discuss the use of brane tilings to investigate such theories. In particular, I will show how to study the classical moduli space of Chern-Simons theories living on the world-volume of M2-branes at toric singularities using the so-called "fast forward algorithm". Finally, I will present some applications of the brane tilings such as the study of toric duality for such gauge theories and I will discuss an interesting family of Chern-Simons theories whose moduli space can be built from Fano 3-folds
