Poincare duality, aspherical manifolds, and group actions

This talk grows out of old work of Borel on group actions on aspherical manifolds and some conjectures of his, Wall, Davis, and Conner and Raymond. We will settle the easiest of these and explain how recent work sheds light on the others. (based on work of Fowler, And joint work with Bartels and Lueck, and with Cappell and Yan)
