The RSK correspondence is the key tool used for the solution of several important problems in combinatorics, probability, and statistical physics. There is a geometric version of RSK (tropical RSK) that will prove useful in the study of certain one-dimensional directed polymer models. In this talk we will see what the tropical RSK correspondence is and how it helps study the directed polymer. As a bonus, we will settle once and for all whether it should be called it "tropical" or not.
