When trying to prove Rota's log-concavity conjecture for possibly non-coordinatizable combinatorial geometries, one faces the question: do we have Hodge index theorem in tropical geometry? In this talk, I will present a conjectural formulation of the combinatorial index theorem, together with several concrete examples. This talk does not assume prior knowledge of tropical geometry.
