A (complex) projective structure is a certain geometric structure on a (real) surface, and it has a holonomy representation from the fundamental group of the base surface into PSL(2,C). A grafting is a surgery operation that transforms a projective structure to another, preserving its holonomy representation. We show that graftings indeed generate all projective structures with a fixed generic holonomy representation.
