Algebraic K-theory, regulators and the volume conjecture in knot theory

Regulators are homomorphisms defined on algebraic K-theory. In some cases they can be expressed in terms of characteristic classes and this leads to a relation with the volume conjecture in knot theory. This talk will survey some of this material.
