Analysis of solitons in nonlinear wave equations.
ColloquiumSpeaker: | David Stuart, Mathematics, UC Davis |
Location: | 693 Kerr |
Start time: | Mon, Nov 23 1998, 4:10PM |
The word soliton is used here to indicate a spatially localised and stable solution to a partial differential equation. Examples of equations of interest include semi-linear wave equations, Ginzburg-Landau theory and and the Yang-Mills equations. A survey will be given of results, approximations and open problems concerning the role of solitons in nonlinear differential equations, in both dynamical and static situations.
