In this talk we will review the classical Demazure character formula for simple representations of a simple Lie algebra. It will be shown how to categorify Demazure operators to the level of Lie algebras and then again to the level of 2-Lie algebras. This has several implications for higher representation theory and suggests several conjectures we will review.
