Crossing geodesics in alternating links

In 1995, Adams, Sakuma and Weeks started geometric study of cusp-to-cusp arcs in hyperbolic 3-manfolds. Given an alternating link diagram, we obtain sufficient conditions for such an arc at every crossing to be isotopic to a simple geodesic. We provide infinite families of closed braids for which this holds.
