This is joint work with Henry Segerman. Suppose that (M,T) is a cusped hyperbolic three-manifold equipped with a veering triangulation. We show that there is a unique circular order on the cusps of the universal cover of M, which is compatible with T. I will give the necessary background on the topology of three-manifolds and the combinatorics of triangulation, with lots of pictures; then I will sketch the algorithmic construction of the circular order. We'll end with a collection of open questions.
