Fill-ins, extensions, scalar curvature, and quasi-local mass
Mathematical Physics SeminarSpeaker: | Christos Mantoulidis, Stanford |
Location: | 2112 MSB |
Start time: | Fri, May 26 2017, 1:15PM |
In this talk we will explain the relationship with the study of Riemannian 3-manifolds of nonnegative scalar curvature, and minimal submanifolds. Then, we will discuss an interesting space of Riemannian 2-spheres that facilitates---within the class of 3-manifolds with positive scalar curvature---extremal bending techniques, and cut-and-fill operations. We'll tie this all back to notions of global and quasi-local energy in general relativity.
Coffee and pastries served at 1:00pm. Joint with PDE and applied seminar.
