In this talk, I will give a basic introduction to fibered knots, some geometric techniques to determine whether a surface the three-sphere is fibered, and translation distance. After, I will talk about circular Heegaard splittings on knots in the three-sphere and define a notion of distance for them that is, in some sense, a generalization of fibered surfaces and translation distance. This talk is intended for first- and second-year students.
