Towards the construction of virtual fundamental classes

After introducing the Kontsevich moduli space of stable maps and motivating the idea of virtual fundamental class, we will discuss some intersection theoretic ideas which suffice for the construction of VFCs in the special case of genus 0 maps to complete intersections. If time permits, I will try to explain the analogy with the general construction. The talk will be introductory, with some emphasis on technical detail.
