Student-Run Research SeminarSpeaker: | Black Jiang, UC Davis |

Given a cluster of data, what can we say about its the differentiability properties? Originally posed by Hassler Whitney in 1934, the problem only receives a complete answer from C. Fefferman in 2004-6, and has since then attracted considerable attention from diverse communities. In this talk, I will walk through the origin and the structure of the problem, and discuss a recent joint work with Prof. Kevin Luli on non-negative data interpolation. If time permits, I will also discuss some potentially far reaching consequences of extension methods.
