Quantized Transport in Interacting Quantum Systems
Special EventsSpeaker: | Martin Fraas, Virginia Tech |
Location: | 1147 MSB |
Start time: | Tue, Dec 17 2019, 4:10PM |
The charge transport of gapped quantum systems at zero temperature is quantized, a phenomenon initially discovered in the context of the quantum Hall effect. For non-interacting systems, the theory explaining these phenomena was finished in the ‘90s. Since then, incorporating interactions was recognized as a significant open problem. In this talk, I will review recent developments in this area; a proof of the quantization of Hall conductance for interacting quantum systems and the development of a fractional-valued index theory. Even though many problems remain open, we now have the tools to study them.
Meet the speaker at a reception starting 3:45pm in 1147 MSB. Refreshments will be served.
