Anyons in Fractional Quantum Hall Effect
Faculty Research SeminarSpeaker: | Martin Fraas, UC Davis |
Location: | Zoom |
Start time: | Tue, Jan 19 2021, 12:10PM |
Fractional quantum Hall effect is a phenomenon in low energy condensed matter physics. Its most fascinating feature is the (presumed) existence of anyonic excitations -- quasiparticles that are neither Bosons or Fermions. I will give a non-technical explanation of what are the basic properties of anyons and how they arise in the context of the quantum Hall effect. At the beginning of the talk, I will also give a short overview of other research topics I am working on.
