Racks and Quantum Invariants
Mathematical Physics SeminarSpeaker: | Jennifer Brown, UC Davis |
Location: | Zoom Meeting ID: 951 6481 0258 |
Start time: | Fri, Mar 12 2021, 11:00AM |
This term we focus on "Inspiration from Physics to Mathematics." The speaker's abstract:
Drawing on the quarter's theme of inspiration from physics, I will talk about my work on adapting racks to quantum knot invariants.
Racks are an algebraic embodiment of the second two Reidemeister moves. I will start with a gentle introduction to racks, then show how they model the colored tangle diagrams ubiquitous in quantum topology. Time permitting, I will talk about my own motivations for pursuing this line of thought, which have to do with the conjectured relationship between character varieties and quantum invariants.
The Zoom Meeting Room opens at 10:45am. The meeting is passcode protected. The passcode is the pseudo-TeX-like form of the standard symplectic form of the oriented xy-plane, using ^ in place of wedge. Thus it consists of 7 characters starting from $.
