We'll motivate the study of tensor networks in many mathematical areas. We’ll define the dimer model, webs and multiwebs, their traces, and show how Kasteleyn theory is adapted to compute sums of traces of multiwebs.
This is the first of three Thurston Lectures by Richard Kenyon. It will be followed by a reception at 4PM in the MSB courtyad.
