In this talk, we explore some basic representation theory of sl_2, one of the simplest Lie algebras. We will find that the representation theory of finite-dimensional irreducible sl_2-modules is symmetric and highly structured. We will go through some key examples rather carefully and try to get a handle on and some intuition about representations in this setting. If time permits, we will tackle some more complicated examples.
