L-functions are fundamental analytic functions in number theory whose behavior governs the distribution of prime numbers and many other important number-theoretic phenomena. I will discuss the value distribution of L-functions in the critical strip. In particular, we will see that the values of distinct primitive L-functions behave like independently distributed random variables on the critical line, but some dependence shows up away from the critical line.
