String Field Theory: An Introduction

In this talk, I will give a lightning introduction to string field theory--a second-quantized formulation of string theory. Starting from the worldsheet, I will develop the field theory generating perturbative string amplitudes and argue for its consistency. The emphasis will be on the interplay between the moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces and Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism. Time permitting, I will also provide an overview of my research and some of the recent developments.
