Classical and Quantum Monte Carlo Methods

Student-Run Research Seminar

Speaker: John Walker, UC Davis
Location: 2112 MSB
Start time: Wed, Nov 20 2024, 12:10PM

First I will talk about standard (Classical) Monte Carlo from a practical point of view: what it solves, how it solves it, and things to look out for while implementing it to make sure the results obtained are good. If there is time during this part I will also talk about Classical Monte Carlo without global balancing. Then I will talk about Determinant Quantum Monte Carlo (DQMC). Some theory will be explained, but the emphasis will be on its numerical methods (linear algebra) and numerical methods for related Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) methods.
