The deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills equation can be defined on any complex manifold, and is a complexified version of the special Lagrangian graph equation. For a class of manifolds with large symmetry, finding a solution to this equation reduces to an intersting problem in the complex plane, namely finding a portion of the level curve of a Harmonic polynomial that remains graphical over an interval in the real axis. I will discuss how to approach this problem with techniques motivated by GIT.
