On obstructions to deforming quadric bundles

The deformation theory of an algebraic object provides information about how the object fits into algebraic families. In this talk, we focus on the deformation theory of projective and quadric bundles. We show that, in characteristic not 2, the deformation theory of a quadric bundle is determined by the deformation theory of its ambient projective bundle. On the other hand, in characteristic 2, we show that there are quadric bundles with obstructed deformations where the ambient projective bundle has unobstructed deformations.
