Once Perelman established the 3-dimensional Poincar ́e Conjecture and Freedman proved the topological 4-dimensional Poincar ́e Conjecture, the smooth 4-dimensional Poincar ́e Conjecture emerged as the central remaining piece of the puzzle, the holy-grail of low-dimensional topology.  We will discuss evidence for and against the conjecture, and approaches to prove or disprove it.
