In vector calculus, we have seen how the analysis on a manifold is intimately related to the topology of the manifold. Such connection between analysis and topology has been one of the underlying themes of differential geometry. In this talk, I will give a brief introduction to the theory of principal bundles (or, if you prefer, "gauge theory"), and illustrate how analysis and topology interacts in this context.
