Description
I will present the classical Schur-Weyl duality between polynomial
representations of GL(n,F) and S(k). This fundamental construction in
algebraic combinatorics connects Lie theory, the representation theory of finite
groups, and the ring of symmetric polynomials. A bit of representation
theory will be assumed, but I will attempt to keep things as elementary as
possible.
