Dehn Surgery on Links and 4-manifolds
Student-Run Geometry/Topology Seminar| Speaker: | Michael Williams, UC Davis |
| Location: | 2112 MSB |
| Start time: | Tue, Jun 3 2008, 1:10PM |
I will discuss some classical examples of simply connected, compact, orientable, smooth 4-manifolds, and a classical construction of a particular class of 4-manifolds in terms of integral Dehn surgery on links in the 3-sphere. I will define the terms in this abstract, and introduce the intersection form for 4-manifolds and associated classical invariants. This talk should be accessible to any student with some background in algebraic and differential topology.
