An elementary introduction to Noncommutative Geometry I
Student-Run Geometry/Topology SeminarSpeaker: | Jerry Kaminker, UC Davis |

Noncommutative Geometry provides a connection between analysis and topology. These will be two introductory talks. The first will present some basic definitions and will lead to an elementary proof of the Noether Index theorem, a precursor of the Atiyah-Singer Index theorem. This can be viewed as an application of topology to an analytic problem. In the second talk this material will be refined and expanded to bring in algebraic topology and an analytic notion of dimension--this is an application of analysis to topology.
