Topological methods in poset theory
Student-Run Discrete Mathematics| Speaker: | Matthew Stamps, UC Davis |
| Location: | 2112 MSB |
| Start time: | Fri, Oct 29 2010, 11:00AM |
Description
I will begin with a brief introduction to the theory of partially ordered
sets (posets). Then I will show how to construct the order complex of a
poset and discuss how the topology of this geometric object gives
combinatorial information about the poset. This talk should be accessible
to all graduate students. As such, I will include a number of examples of
posets which arise naturally in various branches of mathematics.
