Counting Rational Plane Curves
Student-Run Geometry/Topology SeminarSpeaker: | Adrian Zahariuc, UC Davis |

The first application of the theory of quantum cohomology of Kontsevich and Manin was the solution of the following classical enumerative problem: given 3d-1 general points in the (complex projective) plane, how many degree d rational curves passing through these points are there? After recalling the classical (topological) solution for the case d=3, we will informally introduce the moduli space of genus 0 stable maps and sketch how it can be used to answer the question in general. The talk will be very geometric and not too rigorous.
