This talk will give an introduction to fibered knots and links in 3-dimensional manifolds, with emphasis on the case of those in the 3-sphere. After briefly discussing their connection to a couple of major topics of current interest in low-dimensional topology, I will describe how fibered links give rise to Heegaard surfaces, and how knowledge of the structure of Heegaard splittings of the 3-sphere can be used to classify two simple families of fibered links.
