What would Heegaard Floer theory look like if every closed
3-manifold had a genus 1 Heegaard diagram? Jonathan Hanselman, Jake Rasmussen and Liam Watson recently gave an extremely satisfying answer to this question by reinterpreting the bordered Heegaard Floer invariant of a 3-manifold with torus boundary in terms of immersed curves on the manifold's boundary.
I will give an introduction to their theory, focusing on the
pairing statement of their theory. If time permits, I will
explain some applications, such as the L-space glueing theorem.
None of the results presented in this talk are my own - see my
afternoon talk for that.
