Virtual invariants of Quot schemes of surfaces

The Quot schemes of surfaces parametrizing quotients of dimension 0 and 1 admit natural 2-term perfect obstruction theories. I will explain several results concerning the calculation of virtual invariants arising this way, in particular the virtual Euler characteristics. This is based on joint work with Rahul Pandharipande.
