Homological Mirror Symmetry and Twisted Vector Bundles

Abstract: In the first half of my talk I shall attempt to present the main ideas behind one of the most surprising discoveries in algebraic geometry and physics in recent times, mirror symmetry. Kontsevich suggested in 1994 a mathematical explanation for this phenomenon, which is now known as the Homological Mirror Symmetry conjecture. Recently it has become apparent that to capture the full scope of mirror symmetry, Kontsevich's conjecture needs to be modified to include new geometric objects called twisted vector bundles. In the second half of my talk I'll try to explain what these are, and to present some of my work about derived categories of twisted vector bundles, which occur in the modified Homological Mirror Symmetry conjecture.
