Multiscale Modeling of Biological Systems in Complex Fluids
Mathematical BiologySpeaker: | Kathryn Link, UC Davis |
Location: | Zoom |
Start time: | Mon, Apr 5 2021, 2:10PM |
Whether examining the formation of a blood clot in the circulatory system or the swimming of spermatazoa in the female reproductive tract, understanding biological systems in complex fluids requires both experimental and computational research. The physical and chemical interactions that drive these systems occur on multiple temporal and spatial scales that are challenging for experimental exploration. This difficulty requires the creation of new mathematical tools and frameworks, specifically multiscale models and novel numerical methods. In this talk, we will discuss the first multiscale continuum model of extravascular primary hemostasis that governs the growth of a blood clot and the interactions of cells and soluble proteins involved as well as the beginning stages of analysis of emergent waveforms of active filament models.
